Grebo Literacy and Bible Trianing Mission

The Grebo Literacy and Bible Training Mission began in 1988 under the vision of Rev. Joan T. Geleplay Chulu. Joan was convinced that

It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. Ephesians 1:11-12, The Message.

Joan T. G. ChuluBut, to tell others and to bring this hope to her people she realized that 70% of the people in her country are illiterate.

The bible has been translated into Grebo by the Grebo Bible Translation committee and Lutheran bible Translators. Joan was one of the editors for the Grebo New Testament.

The vision of GLBTM is still as strong today as when it was conceived despite the violence and turmoil Liberia has experienced due to the Civil War. There are still many pastors and teachers working to help teach the people how to read and how to find the life giving answers only God can provide through His Word. Joan has spread this vision throughout the Grebo people raising up these workers who are Grebo themselves and very sensitive to the needs of their people, their friends and their families that the Word of God does have the hope and the answers they need to turn their country around.

Please visit our pages, read about our work and our vision. The people of Liberia need hope as well as help in this economically hard time. As the old proverb says, "To give a man a fish you feed him for one day, but to teach him how to fish you feed him for a lifetime." It is the same with the truth of God, telling them about God only helps while you can be with them, but teaching them how to read and giving them a bible gives them all the answers they will need through out life.
